Lee Roy Selmon has a tradition that blends family scholarship football with volunteer work in the community. The first family is his youngest of the nine children born to Lucious the Jessie and Lucious Selmon. They grew up on a farm in Eufala, Oklahoma. Second football he was the third brother who were players for Oklahoma. The three brothers were all All-Americans. The year 1973 was the first time Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the players for one season. Lee Roy is the winner of both Outland Awards as well as Lombardi Awards. He was the top lineman for the entire nation. For the three seasons that Roy was on the field, Oklahoma won two National Championships. In 1975, he received his third scholarship and was recognized as the National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon holds a bachelor's degree in educational studies. Lee Roy was involved in volunteering for ten hours per week while he attended college. After graduating Lee Roy moved to Tampa which is where he played for 9 years with Tampa's Buccaneers. Three times he was named All-Pro. Then he began his business career. The first job he had was an Account Relations Manager at First Florida Bank, Tampa. He has worked previously for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. The Junior Chamber of Commerce honored Lee Roy in 1982 for being among the top 10 youths in the US. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch taller and weighing more than 256 pounds when he played in the college level as an athlete, was captain of his team throughout 1975. In 1993, he joined at the University of South Fla's athletic department as its assistant director. In 1988, he was voted into the College Football Hall of Fame. In addition, he was inducted into his way into the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 gave its Distinguished American Award to his parents, Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma was the person who presented the award.
