Lars Mikkelsen-1Lars Dittmann Mikkelsen, born 6 May 1964, is a Danish actor. He has acted as Troels Hartmann (Copenhagen mayoral candidate) in The Killing and [1] Charles Augustus Magnussen (third series of Sherlock) as well as the Russian president Viktor Petrov on Netflix's American House of Cards, and Grand Admiral Thrawn from Star Wars Rebels. He was awarded the Reumert Prize of Honour in 2011. At the age of 27 when he began his studies, he was accepted into the National Theatre School of Denmark. He graduated from the institution in 1995. In addition to his role in the drama series aired globally under the title The Killing He was later featured in two more internationally acclaimed Danish dramas, Those Who Kill and Borgen III. He also played a central role in an episode of BBC drama Sherlock which featured him as the blackmailer Charles Augustus Magnussen. In the American television show House of Cards he played the president of Russia. He was awarded an International Emmy Award in 2018 for his role in Danish TV drama Herrens Veje. It was aired in the UK in 2019 under the name Ride Upon the Storm
